Luke 4:18The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He (the Holy Spirit) hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.
A study of the verse shows us the following insights:
Strong's # 4151 Spirit ............ Holy Spirit 1909 upon ............ Superimposition , as a relation of distribution 5548 anointed ....... to consecrate to an office or religious service 2097 preach the gospel ... to announce good news especially the gospel 4434 poor ............ a beggar, straitened circumstances 0649 sent ............. set apart, to send out 2390 heal ............. to cure, make whole 4937 broken ......... crush completely, broken to shivers 2588 hearted ........ the thoughts of feelings 0859 deliverance ... forgiveness, pardon, liberty, remission 0164 captives ........ prisoners of war 0309 recovering of sight ... restoration of sight, see, receive sight 5185 blind ............ self conceit, high minded, be lifted up with pride 0859 liberty............ same as deliverance 2352 that are bruised ... crushed
If we look at this verse, we can see the anointing of the Holy Spirit is far more reaching than it would have first appeared to be with just reading this verse. We are anointed to preach the gospel to the beggar in straitened circumstances. We are not to look upon a person if they smell good or look good. We are to preach the gospel to all people. We are sent to help cure and make whole those who are crushed completely and broken to shreds. We are to preach forgiveness, our Lord's pardon, and liberty with remission from our sins. We are to reclaim those who are prisoners of war and taken over by the evils of satan. We are to pray for those who are not only physically blind but who are spiritually blind and have become self-conceited, high-minded, and lifted with pride. We are to go into the world and preach the gospel to bring liberty to all.
In Isaiah 10:27
It shall come to pass in that day that his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck, and the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil.
By using the anointing oil, we are breaking the yoke of burden off of others and ourselves who are anointed. I personally anoint myself every morning with a touch of oil on my right thumb, right earlobe, and right toe. This is in reference to the lepers' anointing mentioned in the Bible.
James 5:14
Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, "anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord."
We are instructed to anoint those who are sick, should they call to us.
In Act 19:12
Paul was so full of the Holy Spirit that the cloths that he sent out carried the same anointing that Paul had. This is called the "Resident anointing of the Holy Spirit."
We have the same ability to pass the anointing to an item, whether it is a cloth, as Paul did, or an object such as a small statue, toy, garment, chair, or use your imagination, if we are full of the Holy Spirit. (Stay with me, go to the testimonies page and read some of the stories)
Luke 4:18
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because He has anointed me…
Isaiah 61:1-3
…because the Lord has anointed me.
Psalms 45:7-8
Therefore, God, your Go,d has anointed you…
We have the ability as Spirit-filled Christians to leave the "Resident" power of the Holy Spirit.
There is a war for our minds, our walk, and the words that come out of our mouths. What is the confession of your mouth? What do you fill your mind with? Are you filling it with the Word, praise, and worship to the Lord, or TV programs and radio of the secular world around you?
Daily, we need to lay our sins on the altar and ask for forgiveness.
Daily, we need to put on the Armor of God. There is incredible strength that comes from such a symbolic act.
The Breastplate of Righteousness is the holiness and the heart of Christ. If we do not have the heart of Christ, we will be lured in other directions.
The Belt of Truth is to hold us together with truth to keep us from believing lies instead of "The Truth".
The Helmet of Christ keeps our minds from the darts of the evil one and gives us the Mind of Christ.
The Shoes are the Preparation of the gospel of peace and the fire of the Lord.
The sword is the REHMA word of God. So often we think of this as the Bible scriptures. It can be, but mostly it is the Rehma word that our Lord gives us at the time when we are standing there in front of someone and about to testify to the Love of God. We need to understand that we must first open our mouths before God can speak. The Lord says if we will come to Him, He will meet us. This is when the evil one will come in full strength to stop you. He knows how powerful the word of God is and how it will strike deep into the heart and slice out the lies he has put there.
The shield is the "ANOINTING". The shield IS NOT a flimsy little piece of metal we hold in front of us. The shield is totally engulfing us. In Isaiah 52:12, it speaks of the Lord being our rear guard. If this is so, the shield must be more than just in front of us. The shield is the anointing of Christ, which means He goes before us to prepare the way before we even get there. The shield of Christ is the rear guard, meaning He is covering us from behind and leaves a "wake" of His Glory as we leave. The shield is to our right and left, meaning He is beside us at all times. The shield is above us to tell the heavenly host to watch over us because we are one of His chosen. The shield below is to show the evil in the pit that we belong to the Almighty God, and he had best not even think of touching us.
We can grab hold of the altar of God and put on the breastplate of righteousness, the belt of truth, the sword in our mouths, the shoes of the gospel of peace and fire, and the shield which is Christ anointing, daily. Anointing our own minds against the lies of Satan and believing that our God does reign in all the heavens and earth. Our God is a BIG BIG BIG GOD.
We are the ones who blow it because we do not accept the awesomeness of our Lord.
With the anointing of Christ in us as a result of living our lives in holiness, we can hold an item in our hands, anoint it with oil, and pray that the anointing be passed into it. We can also dab anointing oil in the areas that a person for whom we are praying finds spiritual renewal or salvation spends most of their time. We can also pray that the anointing be passed into a cloth for healing or deliverance of an individual.
The anointing of our homes, which is placing oil above the doorways and on the doorpost, is done "daily" as a part of the daily devotions to keep Satan out. The Lord says to take up the Cross-"daily". One of the lies of Satan is to tell us that since we prayed yesterday, we don't need to do it again. The Word says daily.
The beauty of the anointing of an item for salvation, deliverance, or healing is that the anointing will last until the task is accomplished. Which means if we anoint a cloth and place it under someone's bed or in his or her car or wherever, it will keep working until what you have prayed in the Spirit over that cloth is accomplished.
